Maui

Maui is probably our favorite Island. It's also consistenly chosen as the best Island in the world in many polls, reviews, and other island vacation rankings - magazines, television shows, etc.

Like Kauai, Maui is a very popular Island for getting married and also a popular honeymoon destination. Honeymoons just don't get any better than Maui! But, people come to the Valley Isle for more than just weddings and honeymoons.

There are no shortage of beaches on this island. In fact, it has more miles of swimmable beaches than any of the other islands. Although you can find great surfing on all of the Hawaii Islands, we were visiting Maui when we found the biggest waves. We learned to surf and also spent a good amount of time boogie boarding (a.k.a. body surfing).

It was very fun because the waves were so huge and were coming in consistantly.

Maui's main attractions...

You won't be able to do everything you'll want to do in Maui in only a week vacation or less, but there are a few places we highly recommend you check out while visiting the island, including Lahaina Town, Haleakala National Park, ‘Iao Valley State Park, Hana and the Maui Ocean Center.

We spent a majority of our time in or near Lahaina Town. It's a fun little town with lots of shopping, activities, and restaurants. Lahaina also holds outdoor craft shows where you can purchase artwork, jewelry, and other authentic Hawaiian crafts. This show takes place under a gigantic Banyan tree, located in the courthouse square. The tree is the largest in the world... in fact, it covers more area of land than any other one single tree anywhere.

This tree is world famous. It has big broad leaves and has many branches that grow into the ground so that it actually looks like many trees, but it's actually only one single tree. It is like a huge canopy, which makes it a great cover from the sun and a perfect spot to hold activities.

For the golfers, Maui has plenty of top-rated golf courses where the PGA Tour and PGA Senior Tour has hosted tournaments.

Whale watching is another huge attractions during the months of November through April. The most active times to see whales in the area is around December and January, as they make their way towards Mexico.

Maui is probably the best Island for a family to vacation. Lots of activities and lots of sites to see.
